Okay. Now I'm into it. Sort of. Well. I've started.

I got up 30 minutes early this morning (6:30) and did the following:

pushups 15 X 3
situps centre 10 X 3
left 10 X 3
right 10 X 3
squats 20 X 3
calf ex 20 X 3
side bends left 20 X 3
right 20 X 3

I was going to do the stretch regime also, but the above took longer to do than I expected , and I had to get ready for work (and I couldn't be fucked).

I'd like to do it every day, but I'll settle for 2 or 3 times a week.

We'll see.
go John go, rah rah rah!
John, John, he's our man! If he can't do it no one can!Thumbsup

I've had a difficult week this past week. I slipped carrying some things down the stairs and fell on my back, then bounced down a few stairs. Thought I wasn't gonna be able to get back up at all there for a second. Landed with all my weight on the corner of a stair on the small of my back, then bounced on a couple more. Still sore, but I'll be back at the gym this week, I promise!!!

Health and fitness will be an ongoing challenge for life. I'm still working on tempering the diet. More often than not I'll get the steamed veges and chicken on plain steamed rice rather than fried rice or pizza. And I've also cut down on beer. I've been drinking bahama mamas this past week which is an orange juice and rum drink, but I'm not sure if it's actually any better than beer healthwise...Icon_redface Well, gonna try switching to a nice wine again.

Also gonna try to eat out less and turn back to fresh fruits and veges and nuts, again. It's a continual process, steering yourself back toward the healthy choices. In the meantime, you can't stop letting yourself live and enjoy the less healthy but inevitably more tasty goodies, in moderationIcon_exclaim Last night, for example, I stopped on the way home from work and had an authentic burrito con queso, along with a couple of Coronas, and enjoyed it immensly. PS. My buddy and room mate Brook will be back here shortly, and he wants to do a fast, so we'll probably embark on a juice/broth fast for a few days starting some time this week.
Poor Kenny. Hope you feel better soon.

My body hurts. Especially my legs. I was going to exercise this morning, but it still hurts so much from Monday that I stopped after about 5 minutes. I'll try again tomorrow.

Gotta go to work now.
I'm so weak it's sad. I did my regular set last Tuesday, and that was the week of Feria. It's a week of non-stop party in Spain. A huge section of town is set up with tents, and every family or group of friends has a party that lasts 24/7. Drinking, eating and dancing. Next to the tent town is an amusement park: rollercoasters, bumper cars, bungee cages and horror houses. Then back to the tents for more drinking, eating and dancing. To bed at 8am, and back to the party at 3pm. I didn't go quite as hard as the locals, though.

Axelle and I have been taking lessons, and learned the local dance. If you know flamenco, it's similar. Lots of arms in the air. It was this that led me to realise that my shoulders aren't quite what they used to be. My right shoulder was aching, and I couldn't work out why. Then I realised. So this week I decided to add some handstand pushups to my regime. When I was 18, and into gymnastics, I could do hundreds of those. I once told a friend I could do them all day. He bet me $20 I couldn't do them for 5 minutes. I did 10 minutes easily.

Today, I was able to do 4 handstand pushups in my first set. I did 2 in my second. Then I collapsed in a grovelling heap.

I was able to do the rest of my regime well enough, and that makes it once a week for 3 weeks. Not good, but better than nothing. I followed with my stretches.
Well, I'm still getting over a bout of the damn flu, but I went back to the gym today finally. I did some light upper body and 20 minutes cardio. I got up a good sweat. Then I did some stretching and sat in the sauna and sweated a bit with some eucalyptus oil on the rocks, clearing out the old lungs.

Then I went to the store and bought some fresh fruits and veges and came home and juiced them in the juicer. I'm gonna try fasting on juice for a couple days, maybe some broths too. I used to make some great broths once upon a time. I need to look up my old broth recipes, broth fasting is great. I almost like it better than juicing cuz you can make up a big batch of broth and store it in the freezer in single serve containers, then just pop one in the microwave and you have a piping hot broth, super healthy. Mmmm, I have to go buy all the ingredients though, and a big pot to stew them in. Maybe tomorrow morning...
Go Kenny Go!
My handstand pushup ratio has improved. I am able to do 3 sets of 5 now. I want to get up to 10. The rest of the regime proceeds as normal.
The belly doesn't seem to show any signs of impending departure, though. If anything it's growing. Could it be that beer and burgers and pizza are negatively effecting my body image?
Naaaaah!
My exercise today was mowing the lawn. I worked up a good sweat, so I'm happy. I also went to the gym and just sat in the sauna for a while. Then I went to Walmart and bought a big pot and a bunch of vegetables, which are presently simmering upstairs into a nice vege broth. I plan to do a juice/broth fast this week.

Apart from that, the battle continues...
I went down south with Axelle this weekend. For the most part I sat on the balcony overlooking the Gibraltar Strait, and could see the dim outline of the mountains in Africa. Oh yes, and I drank beer.

I did two two sets of my regime yesterday, and got my handstand pushups up to 2 sets of 10, which pleases me. Axelle and I then went for a long walk on the beach, before returning to the beach bar (a chiringuito) and buying a nice bottle of Spanish red.

I didn't do much in the way of exercise, but it's something.

Well. I guess no one can.

The mother visited for a few days, and I drank and ate far too much, and did not exercise at all.

Hmmmmm.

I'll have to start again.
I've reached the conclusion that health and fitness is all about starting again. You pretty much have to start again every day. As for me, a flu plus a very busy schedule has wiped me off the fitness map the last couple weeks. I finally went to the doctor when it became apparent that this malicious virus had succeeded with its hostile takeover of my entire body. They gave me a couple injections there at the office and sent me home with a big pile of pills which I've been taking religiously this past week. Even so, this cough is hard to shake. In any case, I too shall start again once I fully recover. I'll be back...
